European Leadership Development Programme 2005-2007, Final Report

Second Report of the European Society of Ophthalmology (SOE) EuLDP 2005/07

The SOE Leadership Development Programme (EuLDP) was launched in 2005 to recognize future leaders of European ophthalmology, promote leadership skills and enhance European collaboration.

Following an introductory session held at the European Congress of Ophthalmology in Berlin 2005, two 3-day working modules have been arranged at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm (outcome reported separately) and now held jointly with the Leadership Development Programmes of the PanAmerican Academy of Ophthalmology (PAAO) and American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) in San Francisco, CA in January 19-21, 2007.

A total of 18 EuLDP participants agreed to travel to San Francisco for the joint working module. The detailed programme is attached. Some sessions were held jointly with participants from the PAAO or AAO LDP's, and some sessions were held separate from the other LDP's. The sessions were largely focused on acquiring practical skills needed for a better leadership. At the end of the San Francisco meeting, each of the EuLDP participants was asked to outline a future project using skills acquired during the 2005/07 SOE LDP.

The course evaluation was very favourable. The results are attached.

The 2005/07 EuLDP class will graduate at the European Congress of Ophthalmology in Vienna in June 2007 in the presence of the incoming class of EuLDP 2007/09. A few of the projects planned by the participants will be briefly presented.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Alcon, Allergan and Santen. Without their kind and generous support this working module and indeed the entire 2005/07 EuLDP would not have been possible.
